THE third batch of Umrah pilgrims under the Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd package departed for Jeddah via Dubai last night.
The group is expected to arrive in Jeddah at 9.40am (local Brunei time) today, December 18.
The 35 pilgrims, led by Pg Hj Rosdimar bin Pg Omar of Darussalam Holdings were set to be in the Holy land for 12 days from December 18 to 29 to perform the Umrah or mini-pilgrimage.
A total of nine batches of pilgrims will depart to the Holy Land throughout the month of December with the first and second batch departing Brunei on December 15 and 16 respectively.
The remaining batches will depart Brunei on December 20, 22, 23, 28 and 30 – with a total of 648 pilgrims.
Pg Ibrahim bin Pg Haji Bakar, the Head of Department for Haj and Umrah from Darussalam Holdings, who was at the Brunei International Airport last night, said that his travel agency who specialised in Haj and Umrah have created various packages to suit each customer’s needs.
“Alhamdulillah, this year, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened their Umrah Visa earlier and thus, we at Darussalam Holdings Sdn Bhd as a service provider are able to send the batches of pilgrims to experience Umrah in December.
“For instance, the 42 Jema’ah (pilgrims) departing on December 28 will be under the ‘Umar Plus Istanbul’ whereby the group will depart via Singapore to Istanbul, Turkey prior performing their Umrah in Madinah,” he explained.
He went on to say that one group will depart via Abu Dhabi whilst another will go straight to Jeddah.
“During their time in the Holy Land, the pilgrims will visit historic Islamic sites including the tomb of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh),” noted Pg Ibrahim.
He also stated that bookings for Umrah packages for early next year are still available for the public.
Meanwhile, one of the pilgrims who departed last night, Haji Adanan bin Haji Abdul Latiff, told the Bulletin that the reason why he chose December to perform his second Umrah was due to the ‘cool’ weather experienced in the Holy Land.
“It’s a different experience for me and my family,” he said before adding that his first Umrah several years ago was in mid-July, when the temperature can go up to 48C while in December the weather will be “just nice” with average temperature of 20C.
He added that December is an ideal month to perform Umrah with his family members since it is during the school-term holidays.
