THE search for a missing 17-year-old boy following Wednesday’s motorboat collision along the Brunei River continued into the late afternoon yesterday.
The youth is believed to have plunged into the water when the motorboat he was operating collided with another boat. The driver of the other boat is currently undergoing treatment at RIPAS Hospital after sustaining broken ribs. As of 4.30pm yesterday, the youth had still not been found.
Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Department and Royal Brunei Police Force scoured the scene of the accident, near the Waterfront (Port View) in the capital, in search of the youth. Family members and close friends also joined in the search.
Family members and relatives who were at the Search and Rescue (SAR) location also held prayers seeking the swift discovery of the youth.
A relative told the Bulletin that the youth, from Kg Kerma Indra Lama in Kg Ayer, had dropped his father off at the nearby night stall located at Temburong jetty and that the incident had happened as he was headed home. There were no other passengers in the motorboat and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
