CUB Scouts from the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association went on a nature walk at Tasek Lama Recreational Park recently.
The nature walk was held to expose the association’s cub scouts to the flora and fauna that can be found while hiking in the area, while also aiming to act as a healthy activity.
According to the Cub Scout Commissioner, Hajah Noraini binti Haji Saidi who is also the Cub Scout Leader of Orang Kaya Besar Imas Primary School in Subok, the nature walk was held to attract the interest of and give an opportunity to Cub Scout members in Year 6 to relax after studying the whole year long, as they recently underwent their PSR exams.
Around 50 cub scouts from Orang Kaya Besar Imas Primary School, Kampong Mata-Mata Primary School, Tungku Primary School, Pulaie Primary school, Anggerek Desa Primary School and Dato Ahmad Primary school were involved in the activities. In addition, members of the Gadong Rover Scout Crew also lent a hand.
The proceedings began with a safety briefing and a warm-up session before the cub scouts went on the nature walk itself. After completing the hike, the cub scouts took part in a colouring competition centred on the theme of “nature’s beauty”, based on what they saw along the walk.
The competition was divided into two categories, i.e. one for cub scouts in years 3 and 4, and another category for cub scouts in Years 5 and 6.
Prizes were presented to the winners of the colouring competition by Dato Paduka Ar Haji Idris bin Haji Abas, the President of the Brunei Darussalam Scouts Association, who also helped judge the contest.
