THE Scholarship Department under the Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday kicked off the four-day Pre-Departure Briefing for 150 students who were awarded with overseas scholarships for the 2014/2015 academic year at the Conference Room 1 of the Ministry of Education in Jalan Airport Lama.
The recipients of the scholarship comprised of 23 post ‘A’ Level students from Jerudong International School (JIS) under the Government Scholarship; 10 students from the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) Twinning Programme for the Medical course as well as some students from Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) for the Engineering course.
Since February to August 2014, a total of 207 students have been awarded with the Overseas Government Scholarship in various levels such as ‘A’ Level, First Diploma and Bachelor Degrees. The scholarship recipients took up studies in the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Germany, Ireland and Malaysia.
The four-day briefing programme touches on a number of topics. The first day (yesterday) began with a briefing on Rules and Regulations of Overseas Government Scholarships presented during the morning session by Awang Haji Ibrahim bin Haji Bagol, the Acting Senior Officer and Head of Scholarship at the Scholarship Division under MoE.
Meanwhile, the afternoon session saw a religious lecture presented by an Islamic Education Officer from the Islamic Dakwah Centre that touched on issues related to morals, Aqidah and law under Fardhu ‘Ain and Fardhu Kifayah.
The second day’s (today) morning session will see a briefing on the Syariah Penal Code Order presented by a Syariah Legal Officer from the Islamic Legal Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), followed by a sharing session with the President of Brunei Darussalam Students in UK & Eire, Radin Abdullah bin Radin Mas Basiuni. The afternoon session will include a briefing from the Narcotics Control Bureau.
The programme’s third day (Thursday, September 11) will only have a morning session featuring two briefings – one by Takaful Brunei Keluarga Sendirian Berhad on the Product of Student Care Takaful and a motivational briefing presented by Awang Ali Yusri bin Abdul Ghafor, the Acting Head of the Counselling and Career Division from the Department of Schools under MoE.
The final day of the programme will see a briefing on Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) by Dr Awang Haji Muhammad Hadi bin Muhammad Melayong, Senior Special Duties Officer as Secretary/Head of the MIB Supreme Council Secretariat, at the Goldstone Ballroom, Centrepoint Hotel, Gadong at 2.30pm.
