KUCHING (Bernama) – The Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) has welcomed the state government plan to reduce electricity tariff for the industrial and commercial sector.
Last November, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem in his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly had announced the state government would revise downward electricity tariffs for all domestic customers.
As a result, approximately 130,000 low income customers in Sarawak will receive zero monthly bill, while others not eligible for the RM20 federal government subsidy will enjoy reduced tariff from 20 to more than 40 per cent.
“Of course, we are also looking forward to electricity tariff reduction for the commercial and industry sectors as the tariff for domestic consumers has already been announced and is effective Jan 1, this year,” said SCCI president Datuk Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg.
He said the reduction would certainly help in reducing operation costs incurred by the industry.a
