VOLUNTEERS from the Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) recently came together to hold a beach cleaning activity at the Meragang Beach. The volunteering activity is part of the bank’s sustainability programme to protect the environment as well as encourage volunteering among employees. This year, the theme for Standard Chartered’s Environmental Committee is “Raise Your Voice, Not the Sea Level”.
According to Selmizah Selamat, the bank’s Environmental Champion, “Our staff enjoys volunteering activities such as this as it gives them a sense of community engagement, being able to give back through volunteering for a good cause. To date Standard Chartered Brunei has clocked in more than 80 volunteering days collectively this year and we hope to continue raising this number through more volunteering work.”
The volunteers started the afternoon collecting rubbish and debris along the beach front before ending with light refreshments.
Standard Chartered Bank is one of the few organisations that actively encourages their staff to take time off work to volunteer in the community by giving all staff three days of employee volunteering leave in addition to their annual leave.
With more than 89,000 employees in 70 different markets, Standard Chartered believes that these volunteering initiatives will have a significant and positive impact across its global footprint.
