STANDARD Chartered Bank’s (SCB) HIV Champions, Marilyn Graeme, Senior Manager Corporate Affairs and Hafiz Hasheim, Corporate Affairs Manager, shared the bank’s Living with HIV awareness programme with a group of employees from Sinofood Express at Sinofood’s training premises in Batu Bersurat.
Saifulizam Zamhor, Operations Manager of Sinofood Express stated, “The HIV awareness programme is highly engaging and interesting as it is based solely on unbiased facts around HIV and AIDS. We will be looking forward to having more sessions for the rest of our employees as the programme is delivered for free and it’s good knowledge for our staff to gain.”
Marilyn Graeme said, “While HIV infection rates in Brunei are relatively low, it is still imperative that efforts continue to be made to protect and further reduce these levels through appropriate awareness and education on HIV and AIDS.
“As a key sustainability agenda for SCB, we are committed and persistent on talking about challenging issues such as these in order to break down the stigma around them.”
The Living with HIV educational programme is one of Standard Chartered’s main corporate social responsibility programmes where the main emphasis is to educate people by sharing the correct facts about the disease.
Standard Chartered continues to ensure 100 per cent of staff members are educated on HIV.
SCB also welcomes requests to deliver this awareness programme for any educational institution and organisations expressing interest.
In the past 25 years, over 30 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses. There are currently more than 33 million people living with the HIV virus and there are 6,800 new infections daily.
SCB’s globally recognised Living with HIV education programme is conducted free-of-charge to any organisation interested in partnering with SCB to educate its staff.
Any organisation or company interested in the programme can contact the bank at 2366095 and speak with Hafiz Hasheim.
