THE Department of Youth and Sports (JBS) stormed to a ruthless 11-2 victory over the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS) in the final to clinch the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (KKBS) Cup 2014 at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid bin Haji Mohd Jaafar, presented the trophy.
MCYS converted a late penalty at the end of normal time but JBS had already long switched off with the title already secured having led 11-1.
Responsible for JBS’s domination the entire tournament was Md Shahjohan Hj Shari, who was awarded the tournament’s top scorer and best player awards after netting a staggering 21 goals in seven appearances including a flurry of strikes in the final.
JBS reached the final unbeaten and conceded only two goals the whole tournament, accumulating a maximum 15 points in the group stage.
Meanwhile, MCYS were equally dominant, conceding only three goals in the group stage though the Brunei History Centre gave them a ride for their money, eventually booking a final spot with a 3-2 win.
The round robin stage was contested for a month on October 25 last year with four teams qualifying for the semi-final.
The other teams included the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP), Community Development Department (JAPEM) and Museums Department.
