THE recent incident involving the Asia-American Gateway (AAG) submarine cable that was ruptured on January 5 at a point about 117km from the landing station in Vung Tau Province, Vietnam, is not causing any disruption to services in Brunei Darussalam, said TelBru.
The incident, however, has affected Vietnam’s international Internet broadband capacity. Repairs to the broken inter-continental cable will finish on January 23, and internet connection from Vietnam to other countries will be fully restored by then.
The 20,000km AAG cable system is a high-bandwidth fibre optic submarine cable system that connects Southeast Asia to the United States. It provides connectivity between Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, Philippines, Guam, Hawaii and the US West Coast and seamless interconnection with other major cable systems connecting Europe and Australia.
