A JOINT operation of enforcement agencies led by the Immigration and National Registration Department (INRD) was conducted on December 20, where officers moved in on target areas at about 11pm.
54 officers from immigration, religious and customs enforcement participated in the operation, which targeted rented quarters of foreign workers to ensure they are residing in the country legally.
Four rented quarters were raided during the operation in separate areas in Mukim Kilanas and Sengkurong, and 10 special passes were issued to foreign workers and their employers.
After further investigation, nine foreigners were released the following day as their passes were found to be valid, whilst 34-year-old Indonesian man, Triyan Ariyanto, was found to have fled from his employer and had been staying in the country with an expired pass for almost two years.
Triyan had been produced in court and sentenced to three months jail with three strokes of the cane.
Triyan was arrested at his rented quarters in Jalan Haji Halus, Kg Bunut Perpindahan.
The religious enforcement officers also recorded a case of close proximity against a foreign couple.
