A SPECIALISED workshop on ‘TV Drama Acting’ commenced yesterday at the Broadcasting Development Centre in Kampung Madang.
Organised by Radio Television Brunei (RTB), the first session that will last for three days is conducted by the lead drama instructor from Malaysia, Ms Fauziah Nawi, who is famous for her stint on the reality TV show Akademi Fantasia. She is assisted by Mohd Firdaus bin Mohammad Hanif, also from Malaysia.
The opening began with a welcoming address from the Deputy Director of RTB, Pg Hj Mahari bin Pg Hj Abd Rajak.
He said local actors have much room for improvement and this requires rigorous training and patience.
TV drama is a popular culture in the country, he said, adding that a good drama not only relies on the script and directing, but also significantly on the actors themselves and their specific roles.
He added that RTB believes that the two drama experts from Malaysia can share and provide their experience, expertise and guidance to the participants towards perfecting their roles while acting in TV dramas.
On a similar note, the deputy director explained that RTB has the capacity to broadcast 10 serial dramas and 10 special dramas produced by local production houses. Added to that, there are TV dramas produced “in-house” by RTB, he added.
A participant, Dk Siti Nurulbazilah bte Pg Hj Ismail, an undergraduate in Malay Literature at Universiti Brunei Darussalam said she is excited to participate in the workshop and hopes to gain more knowledge and experience from the experienced and well-known Malaysian drama tutors.
A second year students at the university, she added that the workshop has relevance in her course.
The workshop is attended by around 60 participants from the general public and it is divided into two sessions due to popular demand. Each session lasts for three days.
