HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday graced the annual Maghrib and Isyak mass prayers and thanksgiving prayers at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital, to mark the beginning of the 31st National Day celebration.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel.
Minister of Religious Affairs Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman was on hand to greet His Majesty and other members of the royal family upon arrival at the mosque.
The ceremony commenced with mass Maghrib prayers, and was followed by Sunnat Hajat prayers to seek blessings and protection from Allah the Almighty, which was led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Haji Awang Salim bin Haji Besar. Later, the Surah Yaasiin was recited.
State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned recited the Doa Kesyukuran just before the Isyak prayer, which was led by YB Pehin Datu Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Hamid bin Bakal.
Following the prayers, His Majesty and Their Royal Highnesses received greetings from hundreds of congregants at the mosque.
The religious ceremony was attended by ministers, deputy ministers, senior government officials, Legislative Council (LegCo) members, foreign ambassadors and members of the public.
Similar mass prayers were also conducted at mosques nationwide.
