THE Royal Thai Embassy in Brunei Darussalam last night commemorated the 87th birthday anniversary of their monarch, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, at a reception ceremony held at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
The guest of honour at the event was Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan bin Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Mohd Yusof, the Minister of Health.
In his speech, the Ambassador of Thailand to Brunei Darussalam, Apichart Phetcharatana, said that Brunei Darussalam and Thailand celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
“The relationship between our two countries remained firm and strong in every level based on mutual respect. The closeness of the two monarchs is reflected through regular exchange of Royal visits. Our Governments have been working closely to promote bilateral cooperation in all aspects and will continue doing so as we travel together on the road to Asean Community in 2015,” the Ambassador added.
Apichart also lauded people to people ties between both countries.
“We, Brunei and Thai people, have carried the same spirit of living in peace and share the same value of unique and unconditional love to our reverend monarchs,” he said.
The Minister of Health with the Thai Ambassador and ambassadors from all Asean member states later cut a jelly cake to commemorate the event.
The Thai Ambassador also presented a token of appreciation to the Minister of Health and his spouse.
A Thai cuisine buffet reception and a Thai cultural performance was also held as part of the event.
