HIS Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik, Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Committee of Governors made a working visit to Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) School in Jln Kebangsaan.
His Royal Highness’ visit showed his interest in on Yayasan’s efforts to promote education, which is one of the five core objectives of its establishment.
The school was established by Yayasan to develop education and capacity building in line with the educational policy and philosophy of the country.
YSHHB School comprises kindergarten, primary and secondary sections, and a religious school, all under one roof. There are 1,855 students and 162 teachers.
The school incorporates the Malay, Islamic, Monarchy (MIB) concept besides practising the national curriculum.
YSHHB School has succeeded as a renowned private educational institution and become the top choice of parents judging by the increase in the number of students enrolled every year.
Attractions at the school include the uniqueness of its teaching and learning system, excellent track record of academic achievements, active involvement of teachers and students in co-curriculum activities, provision of latest teaching and learning methods and a conducive school environment.
His Royal Highness was greeted upon arrival by Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi bin Hj Osman, Chairman of the Yayasan Board of Directors; Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Abdul Rahman bin Hj Ibrahim, Vice Chairman I of the Yayasan Board of Directors; Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin Hj Apong, Vice Chairman II of the Yayasan Board of Directors; Pg Dato Paduka Hj Bahrom bin Pg Hj Bahar, Chairman of the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah School Administrative Board who is also a member of the Yayasan Board of Directors and other administrative board members.
Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awg Hj Suyoi in his welcoming remarks said the visit by His Royal Highness to the school demonstrates his care towards the efforts and programmes taken by YSHHB School in education. His Royal Highness’ father, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, has always given high priority to education since YSHHB School’s establishment and made it as one of the core objectives.
It is YSHHB School’s hope that the school would strive to succeed in all its educational efforts and jointly reflect the concerns of the benevolent ruler.
Hj Brahim bin Hj Ismail, Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, said over the last two years, the school has achieved close to 100 per cent passes in Primary School Assessment (PSR).
In 2014, 47 out of 103 students attained 5 ‘A’s. The quality of achievement in five subjects has also surged as the students scored credits and excellence in majority of the subjects.
In the secondary level, the Brunei Cambridge GCE ‘O’ Level results have shown that the number of students who obtained five credits and above in their ‘O’ levels has increased from 46.43 per cent in 2012 to 59.62 per cent in 2013, up by 13.19 per cent.
The secondary school also offers intervention programmes to assist students that need extra guidance, academic enrichment programme, international, co-curriculum and sports programmes, numeracy and literacy programmes and excellent students awards.
His Royal Highness later toured the school including the kindergarten computer room, swimming pool, mini library, music room and prayer room. Inside the computer room, HRH interacted with YAM Pengiran Anak Raqeeqah Raayatul Bolqiah binti Pengiran Maharaja Setia Laila Diraja Sahibul Irshad Pengiran Anak Hj Abdul Rahim and also posed for a group photo at the school hall.
At the Chinese Calligraphy exhibition set up by primary school students, HRH viewed the work of Pengiran Wajeeh Al-Bolkiah bin Pengiran Hj Mohammad Hakimmuddin and Pengiran Qaiyimah Nurul Bolkiah binti Pengiran Hj Mohammad Hakimmuddin.
