BERLIN (dpa) – Four robbers entered a luxury department store in the German capital on Saturday and fired tear gas at staff and Christmas shoppers in the jewellery section before fleeing in a car, local media reported.
Medical workers treated about a dozen people for eye irritation at Berlin’s iconic Kaufhaus des Westens, better known as KaDeWe, the Berliner Morgenpost newspaper reported online.
The store, which is a major tourist attraction, was shut down for about two hours after the incident.
Police are trying to locate the robbers, whom one witness saw speeding away in a black car, the newspaper said.
Police did not confirm whether the robbers succeeded in stealing goods from the store. Robbers in August broke the windows of KaDeWe, stole luxury watches, and fled in a stolen car.
