THE Department of Agriculture and Agrifood through the Agrifood Industry Section yesterday held a roadshow at Kampung Pandan Community Hall in the Belait District for agrifood entrepreneurs.
The roadshow was one of the annual programmes organised by the Agrifood Industry Section in collaboration with the Agriculture Development Unit of the Belait District and Agriculture Development Section of the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood.
The agrifood industry is ever expanding with the franchise and variety shop stores of value added products like food, beverages and baked goods in the country. In 2013, the production of value-added agrifood products has reached $86.2 million, an increase of 37 per cent compared to 2012 ($62.8 million). The Belait District has contributed $0.69 million in 2013 through 22 registered companies.
The roadshow was attended by 30 active agrifood entrepreneurs in the Belait District.
The event was aimed at enhancing awareness among entrepreneurs on services and incentives provided by the units under the Agrifood Industry Section, Department of Agriculture and Agrifood. Among the benefits gained by those registered under the Agrifood Industry Section include advice and consultation services, technical services such as laboratory analysis, participating in visits to SMEs Food Incubator and pioneer labs at the Agrifood Industry Section and the opportunity to participate in courses and workshops in processing and packaging.
