BRUNEI Darussalam has recorded a drop in the percentage of road fatalities and also serious and light injuries sustained in road accidents last year compared to the year 2013.
Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications, however warned road users not to be complacent but instead maintain the momentum and continue to be alert while driving.
He revealed the road accident statistics at the launching of the Sistem Keselamatan Amalan Pemandu (SiKAP) mobile app and JPD Push SMS Service yesterday at the ministry’s Amar Pahlawan hall.
He said that the number of road fatalities had dropped by 25 per cent in 2014 compared to the year 2013, while the cases of serious and light injuries also declined by 35 per cent and 12 per cent respectively.
He urged the Brunei Darussalam National Road Safety Council to continue its effort to introduce innovative enforcement initiatives to reduce road accidents.
