THE Brunei Darussalam Taekwondo Association (BDTA), in collaboration with the Department of Youth and Sports, organised the 4th Annual Poomsae Championship 2017 from September 4-5, at the Youth Centre, Bandar Seri Begawan.
The event is part of BDTA’s initiatives to support His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s titah to involve youths in healthy activities, and develop Taekwondo as one of the core sports in Brunei Darussalam. The event was also to showcase their poomsae (pattern or form) skills in the national arena.
Eighty-two participants from seven local clubs represented at the championship – Rick Taekwondo Studio, Dynamic Taekwondo Dojang, Unite Taekwondo Club, Wiraseni Taekwondo Academy, Apex Martial Arts Academy, Hybrid Martial Arts Academy and UBD Taekwondo Club.
The event had two categories; Junior Category and Senior Category. Ranging from the age of seven to 18 years and above, they had the opportunity to participate in either sub-categories; individual, pair and team category.
The champion of the annual event was Rick Taekwondo Studio collecting six golds, six silvers and seven bronzes. The first runner-up was Hybrid Martial Arts Academy (six golds, two silvers and one bronze) and the second runner-up went to Dynamic Taekwondo Dojang (four golds, six silvers and three bronze).
Haji Tajuddin bin Haji Mohd Salleh, the President of BDTA, presented the medals and overall trophy to the winners.
