A SIGNIFICANT amount of uncollected rubbish at the backyard of a shophouse of a commercial building located in Kg Sungai Hanching, Jalan Muara, has become a serious eyesore to the public and greatly contributes to the messy and unhygienic appearance of the locale.
Residents have urged the relevant authorities to take immediate action over the increasing piles of garbage that have been steadily accumulating over the past two weeks.
A resident who contacted the Bulletin on behalf of other members of the public expressed his distaste at the sight which he described as a large dumping ground for trash, and pointed out that the Sungai Hanching Health Clinic is located nearby the building.
He urged the authorities to begin monitoring the situation and take quick action to remedy the problem.
“I am very concerned because the rubbish can spread to other places and will raise health issues for the people working here,” he said.
There is also a popular restaurant located near the impromptu rubbish dump and the odour from the garbage is unbearable, he added.
According to the Minor Offences Act Chapter 30 (12:1), negligence towards the cleanliness of an establishment can lead to a compound fine of a minimum of $500 being handed to individuals and companies.
Under Section 30 of the Minor Offences Act, anyone who is unable to settle the compound fine will see their case being forwarded to the court.
