IMAMS urged the Muslim ummah to love Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) unconditionally during the Friday sermon as the country prepared to celebrate Maulud Nabi with processions and mass gathering nationwide today.
An auspicious date for all Muslims, 12 Rabiulawal commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), the noblest and most magnificent of men, bestowed with the highest spiritual stature in the sight of Allah the Almighty. He is the messenger of Allah and one who loves Allah immensely. Prophet Muhammad also loves his Ummah and we, in turn, should reciprocate this love with our heart and soul. Even during his last days, he thought about the fate of his people after he died.
Loving the Prophet is a religious obligation. Beyond the rewards of paradise, we are also privileged to be in the esteemed company of the Prophet in the afterlife.
Being the Prophet’s ummah, we need to prove and manifest our love for him in the following ways. Firstly is to obey the Prophet’s orders and refrain from forbidden things. We must also revive and perform his Sunnah (way of life of the Prophet) while adhering to the teachings of the Al-Qur’an. Allah has commanded upon mankind to yield to His Messenger’s orders and steer clear of his prohibitions. Secondly, it is by emulating the noble character of the Prophet because he is an excellent model for His ummah to follow.
Thirdly, by invoking blessings and salutations upon the Prophet. A person who professes to love the Prophet will ceaselessly make selawat (praise) to him, with his heart in constant remembrance and contemplating the positive deeds that can evoke feelings of love for the Prophet, ultimately culminating a state of profound yearning and longing for the Prophet.
Fourthly, is by knowing the Prophet through his Sirah. Studying the Prophet’s Sirah helps us to get better acquainted with him, to fully understand and appreciate his impeccable character and mannerisms, as well as benefit from lessons learnt in history to serve as guidelines in charting our daily lives. Indeed, we are most fortunate to be the ummah of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) who loves us so profoundly to the point that he regards us all as his brothers and sisters or relatives.
In conclusion, let us all reflect deep into ourselves and rise determined and resolute to implement and follow the Prophet’s Sunnah, as a mark of our undying love for him. May this make us worthy of being among the ummah of the Prophet who will receive his syafaat (intercession) on the Day of Resurrection, and granted entrance into Paradise together with the Prophet.
