THE Beast of the South East v2 is officially in motion. The auditorium of the Pusat Belia was packed with over 60 athletes from all around the region competing for the title of “Beast of the South East”, one of Asia’s most prominent CrossFit competitions.
Sponsored by KFC, the day started off with a Strength and Conditioning seminar hosted by Reebok CrossFit 673.
Under the watchful eyes of Michael Mogard of Reebok CrossFit 673, and Taylor Rank and John Britton from UAE CrossFit boxes, Utmost and Metalize, respectively, the trio spent the entire day breaking down the complex techniques of the Clean and Jerk, and Snatch.
Theory and hands-on sessions were conducted with a video analysis of each athlete to help better understand the full body patterns involved in these highly technical movements.
Once the sessions were all completed, a competition was held to see who could lift the heaviest total weight of the two lifts. Instead of weight categories, the ‘Sinclair coefficient’ was adopted to compare and rank results between different weight classes.
Day two of the Beast of the South East will continue all day today at the Pusat Belia auditorium with free admission for members of the public.
Michael Mogard, owner and head coach of Reebok CrossFit 673 initially organised the competition in 2012 as an avenue to bring together the fitness community from around the region.
Since then it has grown from strength to strength and has become one of the most anticipated CrossFit events in Southeast Asia.
