HUNDREDS applauded and sang along to various latest hit songs performed by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) combined bands and the visiting US Navy’s Seventh Fleet Band, The Orient Express, on Tuesday night during their musical at The Mall, Gadong.
The Orient Express band is part of the crew that is currently in Brunei for the 20th annual bilateral military exercise, the Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT).
The musical was set into three performances, first with the RBAF band performing around 10 songs including Sway by Michael Buble, Maps by Maroon 5 and Hanya Aku by Hyperact.
It was then followed by The Orient Express who performed mostly billboard numbers including Price Tag by Jessie J, Shake It Off by Taylor Swift, All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor and All Of Me by John Legend. As a finale, a combined appearance from both bands was performed.
During their performance, The Orient Express band was led by Musician First Class Rob Collier, whilst the RBAF combined bands was led by Lt (L) Noor Azhar bin Haji Thani, the Director of Royal Brunei Air Force’s Band.
The performance from both bands awed the audience and gained their attention until the end of the show.
To add in the excitement, a performer from The Orient Express band also sang malay numbers.
According to Lt (L) Noor Azhar, both the bands also performed at Kristal FM, a local radio station, and Radio Televisyen Brunei’s (RTB) morning show, ‘Rampai Pagi’. The public can still catch their performances this upcoming Friday, November 14 at Jerudong Park, which will start at 8pm.
Apart from the CARAT 2012 exercises that promote cooperation and mutual understanding, the performance was seen as a step towards forging a closer relationship between RBAF members and their visiting US counterparts.
