BRUNEI’S prestigious international shooting event competition called BISAM or Brunei International Skill-At-Arms Meet will be conducted at the Binturan Firing Range Complex at the Penanjong Garrison in Tutong from January 20 until January 31.
According to a press release, it is designed to pitch the best shooters against each other in a rigorous and demanding shooting environment. This focus ensures the contest is representative of the marksmanship skills required in a modern defence force.
BISAM is hosted by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) as the 11th in its series and will be participated by 16 countries including Brunei. This will be the largest number of participation since BISAM was first held in 1985.
BISAM is competed triennially, and this year’s 11-day event will see a new inclusion of marksmen and shooters from China, Philippines, Thailand and USA into the pool of BISAM’s regular competitors from Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the United Kingdom, as well as comebacks from Laos, New Zealand, Sultanate of Oman, Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
Brunei will be represented by shooters from all three services of the RBAF and the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF).
BISAM sets to improve the standard of marksmanship in a top military-grade, international-setting high stakes shooting competition that also provides an opportunity to enhance military cooperation amongst the participants.
And in the spirit of sportsmanship, despite the different uniforms, the competition also serves as a meaningful platform to promote goodwill and establish closer relations between participants, both personally and professionally.
