OVER 3,500 people – including 18 corporate teams – participated in the Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) first charity run, dubbed The Great Race 2014, which took off and finished at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium yesterday.
The run, organised to mark RB’s 40th anniversary, featured obstacle challenges tailored with an aviation concept – a first of its kind in the country – and received an overwhelming response from the public.
The guest of honour at the event was Dato Paduka Awg Hj Bahrin bin Abdullah, Chairman of RB and Deputy Minister of Finance, who presented the prizes to winners of various categories of the race as well as winners of the lucky draw.
Winning the Corporate Team Challenge in the men’s category was DST Group while Fitness Zone and BIBD came as first runner up and second runner up respectively.
The DST Group also bagged the champion title for the Corporate Team Challenge in the female category while BIBD and Standard Chartered Bank came in second and third places respectively.
The best corporate team video award went to Darussalam Assets.
Meanwhile in the 10km Long Haul Male event, Sefli Ahar emerged as champion while first runner up was Samsul Zambri and Abdul Malik Awang Hidup came in third place.
In the 10km Long Haul Female event, the champion was Bryony Cameron-Smith and Owena Pozzi-Gurung came in second place while Marni Ahmad came in third place.
Roszamani Efis won the 5km Short Haul Male event, while first runner up was Hj Abd Hafiz Hj Awg Damit and second runner up was Haafizh Abd Wahab.
In the 5km Short Haul Female event, Vanesa Lobb was the champion while Fatin Hj Awang Ismail and Shazana Hamirolzama won the second and third places respectively.
The event also saw fantastic prizes given away in a grand lucky draw, as lucky runners walked away with prizes such as return tickets to London, Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur; hotel stays at Nusa Dua Bali, Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu, The Empire Hotel & Country Club, Radisson Hotel, Shangri-La Hotel Surabaya, Flora Hospitality Surabaya as well as Royal Skies Miles and Fitness Zone gym membership.
According to RB, a donation presentation for Green Brunei and Paralympic Brunei – the beneficiaries of the charity run’s proceeds – will be held in two weeks’ time.
