PARK Rangers (Renjer Taman Perhutanan), who conduct patrols at Bukit Shahbandar, yesterday received their official ranger vests from Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Utama Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yahya bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, the Minister of Industry and Primary Resources.
The bright yellow vests will enable the 13 Park Rangers to be easily identified by joggers and hikers, who need help in an emergency. The move is part of efforts to bolster security around the park. The Park Rangers attended a mandatory course in Emergency Medical Response from October 28 to 31, according to the Forestry Department.
The minister also presented certificates to the Park Rangers for completing the course, which was jointly conducted with medical personnel from the Ministry of Defence.
The day also saw a demonstration of emergency scenarios by the Park Rangers, who are equipped with medical apparatus to save injured people. They also demonstrated rescue skills, including using items found in the jungle to make a stretcher for carrying an injured person.
The Forestry Department hopes that a similar service will be provided to ensure the safety of the public at all recreational parks in the country.
