THE Embassy of Qatar in Brunei Darussalam celebrated Qatar National Sports Day yesterday at Royal Brunei Armed Forces Saddle Club, Berakas Camp.
The event is a pioneer initiative adopted by the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who issued the Emiri Decree stating that every Tuesday in the second week of February each year will be the state’s National Sports Day.
All ministries, government bodies and embassies have lined up a series of activities to encourage their employees’ participation. This included horse riding, tug-of-war and beach soccer.
Charge D’ Affaires Ad Interim, Mohammed Ibrahim MI Al-Abdulla, also participated in the event.
He highlighted that the National Sports Day was a special day in Qatar where people join in all kind of sport activities at the stadium or open places.
“It started in 2011 where every second Tuesday in February becomes an official public holiday for Qatar.
“We also want all the ministries, corporations and companies to join in the fun activities. The National Sports Day aims to consolidate the State of Qatar’s Vision 2030.”
