TWO Qari, Awang Muhammad Fikri bin Haji Sharbini and Haji Awang Muhammad Fikri bin Haji Awang Metussin, and a Qariah, Dayang Amal Nazirah binti Haji Asmat, left for Indonesia yesterday to participate in the Musbaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) International competition, which will be held from September 21 to 28 in Kota Palembang, Sumatera Selatan.
Twenty-nine-year-old Haji Awang Muhammad Fikri, who will compete in the Tilawah Al-Quran category, told the Bulletin that intensive preparations were made a week before their departure.
He had represented Brunei Darussalam in several Quranic competitions before such as the Asean Youth International Quranic Reading Competition and the Dunia Melayu, Dunia Islam held in Malacca, Malaysia, back in 2012.
He also said that he wishes to consistently polish his talent in Quranic recitation and hopes that he will be able to make Brunei proud in the competition.
In another interview, 26-year-old Amal Nazirah, a probationary religious teacher at Katimahar Religious School, said that it was her first participation in an international competition and hoped that she will excel in performing her Tilawah Quran recitation in the upcoming competition.
Present at the airport to send off the delegation were officers and staff members of the Ministry of Religious Affairs as well as family members of the participants. The Brunei representatives will be returning to the country on September 28.
