WE WOULD like to refer to the Opinion letter, ‘20-foot hole by the road side a death trap’ published in the Bulletin by “Concerned Resident” on October 22, 2014.
First and foremost, the Public Works Department (PWD) wishes to express regret over the writer’s complaint about idling sewerage construction works at the side of a road in Jalan Kiulap.
The department has inspected the area highlighted by the complainant and would like to inform that the sewerage work in question is under the National Development Plan project with the primary objective of providing centralised sewerage reticulation including sewerage connections for houses/buildings at Kampong Kiulap to replace the septic tank system currently being used.
Upon completion, this project will enhance the quality of the general environment of the areas at Kampong Kiulap particularly and Brunei-Muara generally.
Due to technical reasons, the site had to be filled and left to consolidate in order to allow the ground to harden enough for the next stage of the construction project.
The area was fenced off for safety reasons and after the period of consolidation, the site has since been completely repaired and the sewer line has also been completed for that particular area.
The PWD would like to apologise to the writer and his neighbours and hope they would temporarily bear with the inconveniences and unavoidable conditions during the sewerage constr-uction works.
After the completion of the project, the residents of Kampong Kiulap will be assured of a better surrounding, better quality of living and healthier environment for them and their future generation.
