TWO special needs students under Pusat Ehsan’s vocational programme were given an opportunity to work in a real working environment when they joined the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf’s (CBTL) branch in Times Square shopping complex for a work attachment yesterday.
Siti Nursyazwani binti Hj Shamsudin and Mohd Ulee Zufri bin Safri will be trained as baristas, where they can apply their knowledge and skills in real work scenarios assisted by the CBTL staff and management.
“The work attachment will take place every Monday and Wednesday, with five-hour shifts. The shift hours and the number of days will gradually increase based on their performances.
To assess the students, CBTL’s training manager and outlet supervisors will hand over feedback reports to Pusat Ehsan to help identify the type of assistance needed.
The work attachment will serve as an eye opener to the possibilities that the experience may bring to the students.
Siti Nursyazwani, 22, said, “I am really glad to be able to work under the attachment. I hope that I can learn in a real work environment and maybe help support my family in the future.”
To date, there are already four Pusat Ehsan students working under CBTL, and they have proven themselves through their commitment and hard work.
According to CBTL Brunei’s Acting General Manager Khairul Nidzam bin Hj Abu Bakar, the Pusat Ehsan students “are hard working and display a growth of confidence in their communications”
“They are also helpful to people.”
“The Caring Cup initiative is not just about charity or donations, it is also about engaging with the public, especially those in need.
“We will continue to offer more opportunities to special needs individuals from Pusat Ehsan, as well as other NGOs.
“We are also currently working with KACA to hold various activities, while for SMARTER Brunei, we hope to create an avenue for them to sell their pastries and other products.
“We are currently in the progress of finalising the starting date.”
CBTL, as an industry partner, increasingly supports the vocational employment programme of Pusat Ehsan to expose the students to actual learning experiences.
Pusat Ehsan extended its appreciation to CBTL for its continued support.
