IN RESPONSE to a letter by Concerned Citizen on “RIPAS Hospital Toilets in bad shape” published in the Weekend Bulletin, dated October 11, 2014, the Department of Estate Management and Project Development, Ministry of Health would like to express our appreciation to the letter writer for his/her comments with regards to the condition of the toilets at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital.
We would like to inform the writer and the public that necessary actions are taken to repair all faulty toilet facilities at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital from time to time. The hospital also from time to time has been kept clean through contracted cleaning services which have been diligent in cleaning the toilets in the hospital.
The Department of Estate Management and Project Development, Ministry of Health continues to and has always monitored and made necessary repairs or replacements of all facilities including toilets in all of the ministry’s buildings according to the needs of each facility.
The Ministry of Health has on many occasions needed to repair or replace toilets accessories and fittings such as hoses and pipes and from our observations and experiences these are due to being either stolen or damaged because of improper and inappropriate use or were vandalised, especially in facilities with high public attendance.
These unfortunate incidents not only incur the government unnecessary expenditure for the continuous repairs and replacements of these toilet facilities, but also cause inconvenience for members of the public who wish to use the facilities. This behaviour is regrettable and does not represent a civic-minded community.
The Ministry of Health appreciates and urges the public’s cooperation to be more responsible, mindful and appreciative when using these facilities. All of us are responsible in taking care of these public facilities and not to vandalise them, as they are for public use and convenience.
We would like to take this opportunity to assure the public that the Ministry of Health will always strive and try our best to provide safe and comfortable facilities and would like to apologise for any inconveniences caused.
