THE Information Society Programme was yesterday held at the Information Department in Berakas, allowing participants the chance to enhance their knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship and in battling the issue of abuse within our community.
Legislative Council member cum Penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘A’ YB Awang Haji A Ahmad bin Husain was the guest of honour at the event, which was organised by the Information Department under the Prime Minister’s Office.
The day opened with a recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and Doa Selamat, following which the welcoming speech of Information Department Acting Director Mawardi bin Haji Mohammad was delivered by his representative, Information Department Acting Deputy Director Hajah Noorashidah binti Haji Aliomar.
With plans to expand the programme to the other districts, the speech read, “I hope the programme will become a source of innovation in creating new and positive change…. in creating an innovative, competitive, compassionate and caring society.”
Meanwhile, in a separate speech, the guest of honour highlighted that the theme of the programme, ‘Entrepreneurship and Issues of Abuse,’ is significant and that it provides information to all levels of society.
“We need strengthened solidarity and determination to stimulate the economy. We also need to possess better awareness on the issues of abuses happening in the country, albeit it being at a low rate,” he said.
He also called on society to extend care and concern to victims of abuse.
The programme, the second of its kind, involves participants comprising members of Mukim Consultative Council, Mukim Berakas ‘A’ and ‘B,’ and Muslimah of Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah in Kampong Kiarong.
A talk was yesterday delivered by officers from the Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Promotion Centre at the Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources, while Day Two (today) will see personnel from the Royal Brunei Police Force and Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) discussing topics on issues of abuse and the rights of abuse victims.
Programme activities include visits to the site manufacturing herbal tea and village products by MPK Kampong Kiudang, and the Subok Welfare Home.
Also in attendance were the penghulu of Mukim Berakas ‘B’; village heads of Kampong Mukim Berakas ‘A’ and ‘B;’ and invited guests.
