WINNERS of the Borneo Bulletin Photography Contest 2017 were presented with prizes yesterday at Millennium Restaurant, Gadong.
Competition sponsors included Interhouse Company (Canon), Baiduri Bank, QAF Auto Sdn Bhd, Progresif Cellular, Radisson Hotel, PAR Food & Beverages and Ben Foods Sdn Bhd.
The first prize winners for the five different categories – Golden Jubilee, 50 Years of Asean, People and Culture, Places and Landmarks, and Food and Sports – were Mohd Ariffin bin Haji Akif, Mohd Syariffuddin bin Haji Mohd Supri, Haji Mohammad Yusop bin Mohammad Yassin, Law Hieng Hing and Bahrin Yusof respectively.
Meanwhile the second place winners in each category were Mursidi bin Haji Abdul Ghani, Muhammad Waliyuddin bin Ahmad, Mohd Seruddin Salleh, Abdul Qawi bin Haji Zulkipli, and Mohd Fikri bin Haji Salleh respectively. Third place winners were Wafi Jamil, Musa Manggai, Pengiran Heris bin Pengiran Mohammed, Amri bin Haji Mohd Salleh, and Nasrul Hadi bin Hamdan respectively.
Present during the prize presentation were Dayangku Hajah Juni Hana binti Pengiran Haji Chuchu, Acting Deputy Director of Culture and Art of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (MCYS); Rita Suzanty Andry, Special Duties Officer at the Tourism Development Department of the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT); Ti Eng Hui, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Baiduri Bank alongside Dorothy Newn, Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing at Baiduri Bank; Alma Paquena, Specialty Sales Manager of The Coffee Bean Brunei; Vincent Goh, Deputy Managing Director of Interhouse Company; Hafizah binti Mohammad, Corporate Communications Manager of Progresif Cellular Sdn Bhd; Jerome van Helden, General Manager of Radisson Hotel; Sivakumar Krishnan, General Manager of QAF Auto; Reggie See, General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd; Hazizah binti Osman, Deputy General Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd; Suzie Houng, Senior Finance Manager of Brunei Press Sdn Bhd; as well as other representatives from Ben Foods and Brunei Press.
An overwhelming 1,600 entries were received for the contest which ran from August until November, 2017. Competition judges comprised representatives from the MCYS, the MPRT, Interhouse Company, Baiduri Bank, QAF Auto, Progresif Cellular, Radisson Hotel, PAR Food & Beverages, Ben Foods, and Brunei Press.
Reggie See, in his speech, said that the winning photos were judged and selected based on their photographic quality, creativity, as well as effectiveness in conveying the message.
“A total of 40 winners in the five categories receive cash prizes in addition to other attractive prizes sponsored by the eight companies,” said Reggie See.
“Through the Borneo Bulletin Photography Contest, we hope to continue to discover more aspiring and talented photographers by providing them with the opportunity to capture and share interesting snapshots of Brunei Darussalam.”
The event concluded with a viewing of the winning entries set up in a makeshift photo gallery.
