TWO officers from the Prisons Department – Prisons Superintendant Ali Akbar bin Hj Ludin and Officer-in-Charge/Head of Prisons Officers Hamdani bin Mohammad Salleh – left the country for Singapore yesterday to take part in the Yellow Ribbon Race organised by their Singaporean counterparts. The race is divided into two categories – the 6-kilometre Fun Run and the 10-km Open Race. The special programme that will be held today carries the concept of ‘Give Them a Second Chance’ to highlight the second chance that former inmates need to get back into society and become a valuable and responsible member of the community.
A TOTAL of 23 readers from all four districts participated in the finals of the Al-Quran memorisation and interpretation competition yesterday, for mukim and village consultative councils and mosque takmir committees.
The religious event was held at the Tutong Civic Centre Complex, to mark the 70th birthday celebrations of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The competition was divided into six categories. In Category ‘A’ for boys, the winner was Ahmad Huzaifah bin Haji Awang Hasbi from the Brunei-Muara District, followed by Muhammad Nur Rahim bin Abdul Sufian from Belait in second place, and Ibni Zahra’ Hijriyah bin Haji Zaini from Tutong in third place.
