HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to attend the second day of the 3rd Brunei Open Swimming Championship 2014 to watch His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel who set a new national age group record in the men’s 100 LC-metre breaststroke at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex swimming pool yesterday.
Also present at the national swimming meet were Her Royal Highness Paduka Seri Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah, Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim and Her Royal Highness Princess Muneerah Madhul Bolkiah.
His Majesty was greeted upon arrival by the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Hazair bin Haji Abdullah and the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman.
HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel set a new national age group record for 8-year-old boys with a time of 2:19.66. HRH was also presented a certificate to mark the achievement.
HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel and HRH Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim both competed in the men’s 100m breaststroke.
HRH Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim also contested in the men’s 50m butterfly event yesterday.
In the men’s breaststroke, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel finished in fourth place while HRH Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim finished seventh in a time of 2:28.83.
HRH Prince ‘Abdul Muntaqim completed the men’s 50m butterfly in fifth place in a time of 1:09.90.
The event is organised by the Brunei Amateur Swimming Association (BASA) and is supported by the Department of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
The national swimming meet will conclude today (Nov 16).
