HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah, the President of the Brunei Darussalam National Olympic Council (BDNOC) arrived in Incheon, South Korea last night to attend the 17th Asian Games, Incheon 2014.
Upon arrival, His Royal Highness was greeted by the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of Korea, Dato Paduka Haji Harun Haji Ismail.
Also present were the chef-de-mission, Mariam binti Ulat as well as secretariat officials from the Brunei Darussalam contingent to the 17th Asian Games.
Meanwhile, a team managers’ meeting took place at the MVL Hotel yesterday.
In the Men Sabre individual category, a total of 23 competitors have been registered from 14 nations namely Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, China, Hong Kong, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Vietnam.
The draw for national athlete Mohammad Yunos bin Awang Haji Hamid will be revealed a day before the date of the competition.
The men sabre individual will start from 9am to 9.05pm at the Goyang Gymnasium on Sept 21.
The team managers’ meeting for sepak takraw was also held in the afternoon at the Koryo Hotel.
A total of eight teams have been split into two groups and the trio of Abdul Hadi Ariffin Matali, Jamaludin Haji Marzi and Ismail Ang of Brunei Darussalam have been drawn in Group B along with fellow Asean rivals Indonesia, Laos and Myanmar in the Men’s Doubles.
There are 10 teams in the Men’s Regu with Brunei Darussalam grouped along with India, Korea, Malaysia and Nepal in Group B. The national athletes in this group are Mohammad Shukri Jaineh, Ismail Ang, Nur Alimin Sunggoh, Md Hafizzuddin Jamaludin and Marzuki Munap.
Brunei Darussalam will begin the Men’s Doubles event against Myanmar in the preliminaries on Sept 20.
