TO COMMEMORATE the 24th National Teachers’ Day and 100 years of formal education in Brunei Darussalam, a Surah Yaasiin, Tahlil and Doa Arwah recital ceremony was held for the late parents of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit, at the Royal Mausoleum in Jalan Tutong yesterday.
Minister of Education, Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, led the ceremony which was attended by over 400 officials including teachers from schools, colleges as well as higher education and technical and vocational institutions.
The recitation was led by the Mosque Affairs Officer for the Brunei-Muara District.
According to a press release issued by the Ministry of Education (MoE), this year’s event will culminate on October 9 at the International Convention Centre in Berakas in line with the theme of ‘Lifelong Education Guarantees the Welfare of the People’.
Also present were the Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Yusoff bin Haji Ismail; Permanent Secretary (Core Education) at the MoE, Dr Haji Junaidi bin Haji Abdul Rahman; Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the MoE and Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Dato Paduka Dr Hj Zulkarnain bin Haji Hanafi.
