THE Bandar Magistrate’s Court sentenced a Permanent Resident to jail for 10 months after he pleaded guilty to theft charges.
DPP Aiman Zakaria told the court that the unemployed defendant, Mohammad Fakhri bin Maslan, stole a bag and a smartphone from a workers’ quarters at Jalan Pasai 2, Mulaut at about 9am on November 26. He found the door ajar and rummaged the belongings of the workers.
The defendant found some water, drank it and took the bag and smartphone, which he found on a table. As he prepared to leave, workers at the premises detained him after discovering he had stolen the items.
The defendant informed he was desperate to buy milk for his children and had not received his Baitul Mal assistance since September. Magistrate Hajah Ervy Sufitriana Hj Abd Rahman nevertheless told the defendant that he cannot steal despite the circumstances.
The defendant was also found to have a previous theft conviction.
