A LOCAL man was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment by the High Court yesterday after he pleaded guilty to the possession of just over 40 grammes of methylamphetamine or Syabu, a class A drug.
Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Latif was arrested by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) agents at the Jetty 4, Kg Saba Ujong, Mukim Saba at about 12 pm on June 9, 2013.
The defendant tried to escape and threw a plastic bag on the jetty.
The plastic bag was recovered and it was found to contain 60 grammes of crystalline substances, which were later analysed to contain a nett weight of 44.315 grammes of methylamphetamine.
Justice Dato Paduka Hairol Arni bin Haji Abdul Majid, in sentencing, took into account the defendant’s cooperation and help in the investigations.
DPP Farhanah Pehin Dato Haji Suhaili appeared for the Public Prosecutor.
