Back in the 1960s, entertainment was quite limited and the young people of Brunei would look forward to watch any latest movies at the local cinemas.
There were only three cinemas located in the heart of the capital namely Bolkiah Cinema, Boonpang Lama Cinema and Borneo Cinema. Some of the Malay movies that were popular during that era included ‘Seniman Bujang Lapok’, ‘Madu Tiga’ and ‘Tiga Abdul’. Those movies, which were directed by the late P Ramlee, are still popular until now.
The youth would dress in their Sunday best and meet up with friends just to catch the latest film.
All the three cinemas no longer exist now and they only remain in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to experience it.
