AIMAN’S life was quite uneventful until one day, when he was driving back home in Kampong Mata-Mata, he noticed a spacious garage (what used to be a car wash) that was left unmanaged and was becoming an eyesore in the area.
This was when he realised the potential of a car-cleaning service and started the Shine Car Wash Auto Detailing.
One thing that becomes most obvious about the Shine Car Wash is the friendliness of its staff, who are made up of 100 per cent Bruneians.
The car wash was started in the middle of November last year by the business-minded, Mohd Aiman bin Awg Hj Mohammad, 24, who has familiarised himself with cars since childhood.
“As a child, I always accompanied my siblings to fix cars, and it made me keen to get involved in the business,” he told the Weekend Bulletin.
According to Aiman, his adoptive father and family members have provided much encourage-ment and advice.
“Originally, we had some difficulty finding a place to conduct our business,” explained Aiman, but that was before he observed the spacious garage vicinity in Kg Mata-Mata – a workshop that had been dormant for three months.
After successfully obtaining the site from supportive owner Hj Rosdan, Aiman took only three days to find employees, prepare equipment and promote his business to the public.
The Shine Car Wash Auto Detailing has been in operation for about two months now since the first day of its establishment, and it is also the only car wash company in Brunei to have the ‘Night Wash’, a car-cleaning service offered in the evening.
Similar to other existing car wash companies, the Shine Car Wash also offers a fast car wax service, which takes only 15 minutes to complete. Normal polishing can take up to two hours.
Also available are engine-cleaning, car body-polishing and other cleaning services at affordable prices.
What sets Aiman’s company apart are its attractive promotions – one of which is the free registration for a membership card upon the customer’s first visit.
This membership will entitle customers to a free car wash after they complete the six ‘chops’ on their card as well as 10 per cent discounts on other services.
In addition, Aiman is offering a 50 per cent discount for customers who come for a car wash when it rains with an additional 20 per cent discount on car polish on rainy days.
In order to provide the best service, the Shine Car Wash Auto Detailing uses quality brands such as Auto Glym, Amway and Meguiars products, known for its capabilities to remove dust and grease, among others.
The prices for services vary depending on customers’ needs. They can be as low as $4 for a basic car wash and as much as $300, depending on the type of service and size of the car.
The words ‘Tell us if not satisfied’ are also prin-ted on the back of the staff’s light blue uniform, while the waiting room is air-conditioned and equipped with other facilities.
“We also provide hot drinks, snacks and water for free – everything for the comfort of our cus-tomers,” said Aiman.
Shine Car Wash is open daily from 8am to 6pm and until 10pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
According to Manager Rozaimi bin Kefli, 30, they have received an overwhelming response from customers when they first introduced the ‘Night Wash’ which forced them to work until 11pm.
He said that they obtain feedback from cus-tomers through their Facebook page and those who rate their services only three stars or below would be contacted for improvements.
Customers also stand a chance to win special prizes if they can correctly answer a quiz on the Facebook page.
So far, there have been two quiz winners, and one of them, Adi, commented, “I will definite-ly continue using the excellent services here… Very clean and very detailed, (it’s) as though the employees are cleaning their own car.”
According to Aiman, the company is planning to expand its business by opening new branches around the Brunei-Muara District.
He also hopes to open a cafe where people can relax while waiting for their cars to be cleaned.
Aiman has in fact also contacted the Local Em-ployment and Workforce Development Agency (APTK) to obtain a list of qualified locals and to offer the unemployed job opportunities.
