KUANTAN (Bernama) – A policeman was fined RM2,000, in default two months’ jail, by the Sessions Court here today for accepting a RM290 bribe.
Judge Habibah Mohamed Yusof handed down the sentence after Lance Corporal Ridzuan Kunchin pleaded guilty to the charge.
Ridzuan, 33, of the Raub police narcotic branch and had been suspended from work, was charged with accepting the bribe as an inducement for him to release one Norazizi Mohamad, who tested positive for drug.
The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Kampung Ulu Renggol, Sega, Raub at 8.30 pm on Oct 13, 2013.
The charge, under Section 165 of the Penal Code, carries an imprisonment for up to two years or fine, or both, if found guilty.
Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, Amer Abu Bakar Abdullah, prosecuted, while Ridzuan is represented by lawyer Abdul Shukor Mohd Nor.
