IPOH (Bernama) – A criminal, believed to be a member of the notorious Mamak Gang, was shot dead by police on Wednesday night while three others were nabbed in two separate operations, recently.
Perak CID chief, Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said Muhammad Asharaf Jamaluddin, 24, was killed in a shootout with police at a house in Taman Bunga Raya, Kuala Kangsar at 9.30pm on Wednesday.
“The suspect has two criminal records. Other than a robbery in Kamunting, he is believed to have driven the vehicle which rammed and killed a Motorcycle Patrol Unit member in Bagan Serai in May,” he told reporters.
He said a Colt .45 semi-automatic, several bullets, vehicle registration plate numbers, parang, four jackets with the police logo, four Malaysian Customs integrity badges, 72 cellphones and luxury car keys were also seized in the operation.
He said another suspected Mamak Gang member, aged 37, from Kampung Stesen, Kuala Kangsar was nabbed during an Ops Cantas Khas operation in Lenggong at 11.30am, on Dec 14, after police intercepted a car.
He said the man, who tested positive for drugs, had 20 criminal records and was wanted in Perak, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Melaka. A Subaru Impreza, a police vest, some luxury car keys and metal cutter were also seized in the operation.
Mohd Dzuraidi said another suspected Mamak Gang member, 50, also from Kampung Stesen, and his 33-year-old girlfriend, from Sungai Siput, were remanded until Friday.
He said the couple were nabbed in a raid on a house at Taman Sri Desa, Kampung Tawas at 6.20pm on Dec 6.
Police seized two cars, one police vest and housebreaking equipment in the raid.
“Both tested positive for drugs. The man has 25 records. He is also wanted in Kedah, Selangor, Penang and Melaka.”
