THE Acting Director of the Operations Department at Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), ACP Haji Mohd Don bin Haji Harith, has urged police personnel to always maintain their discipline and commitment while performing their duties in maintaining the peace and security of the country. He also advised them to carry out their duties and responsibilities as what have been entrusted to them.
The acting director was speaking during the presentation of certificates of distinction, letters of appointment and service medals to police personnel under the department yesterday.
The ceremony was held at the RBPF Training Centre’s Parade Square and multi-purpose hall, RBPF Headquarters in Gadong.
He added that there are some personnel who have disciplinary problems such as absent from duties for no reasons, not abiding by the commands, travelling abroad without having permission and negligence and carelessness while performing their duties.
“Disciplinary problems are quite common among the personnel, especially among those who have served in the forces for a long time, say six, 10, 15 or 18 years.
“The question is what caused them to have such disciplinary problems or are they tired of performing their responsibilities with RBPF or do they really want to shift to another work environment which is more challenging,” the acting director added.
“Is working as a policeman not challenging enough?” he asked.
“From Islamic perspective, working as a policeman is one of the highly regarded jobs,” he said.
“Therefore, the police officers and their superiors must take this matter seriously because they are the closest with their subordinates. They are responsible for ensuring that their subordinates are present during their duties, wear proper attire and give them proper briefing on their specific task to be carried out during their duties.”
The acting director added that the officers must advise their subordinates to maintain high standard of discipline and work ethics, reminding them that the Operations Department is one of the important units under the RBPF to ensure public safety and security.
They need to be ready all the time and act quickly and efficiently if they are given certain orders or instructions.
Discipline still plays a major role not only for the lower-ranked personnel but it applies to all, he said. In addition, abiding by the instructions or orders given by the superior is one of the vital things in leading the department to success.
In terms of capacity building and development, the department has outlined several programmes and activities for the police officers and lower-ranked personnel.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of certificates of distinction to four RBPF personnel under the Operations Department for the excellent performance they have shown in their line of duty.
They are S/Sgt 898 Haji Muhd Nur’Alim bin Haji Muhd Saperi, APO L/Cpl 6188 Sefli anak Ahar, APO L/Cpl 6223 Deved bin Nurasin and APO 6872 Jelmiefaisal bin Ratu.
Earlier, the acting director witnessed a march past of officers accompanied by the RBPF band at the RBPF Training Centre’s Parade Square.
At RBPF Training Centre’s multi-purpose hall, Haji Mohd Don bin Haji Harith presented insignias and service medals to the RBPF personnel. Twenty-four personnel were promoted from lance corporal to corporal rank, 17 personnel were promoted to lance corporal rank and 14 personnel were presented with the one-year service medals.
