KOTA TINGGI (Bernama) – Police have crippled a car theft gang with the arrest of three men in a raid on a vehicle workshop in Kampung Temenin Lama on Dec 1.
Kota Tinggi police chief Supt Rahmat Othman said the suspects aged 27 to 42 years were arrested at 1 am after a tip-off from the public.
Police seized four cars, a Proton Wira, BMW, Mitsubishi Lancer and Hyundai Sonata from the workshop.
Rahmat said the Mitsubishi Lancer and Hyundai Sonata had Singapore plates.
“The Proton Wira was reported missing on Aug 9 in Kota Tinggi while the engine number and chassis of the BMW, Mitsubishi Lancer and Hyundai Sonata were erased,” he said in a statement here, yesterday.
Initial investigation found that one of the three suspects was the owner of the workshop while two of them had criminal record related to possession of stolen goods.
The workshop was also found to be unlicensed and believed used for the modification of vehicles and disposing of stolen goods.
Rahmat said they would seek cooperation from Singapore police to check whether the two vehicles with Singapore plates were reported missing there.
The three suspects were remanded to aid investigation under Section 379A (vehicle theft) and Section 411 (possession of stolen goods) of the Penal Code.
