NIBONG TEBAL (Bernama) – A total of 13 men were arrested for various offences in an integrated crime prevention operation conducted in Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) district last night.
Penang Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department chief SAC Nasir Salleh said the 13, aged 20 to 40 years, were wanted by police in connection with various criminal offences.
“Five men were arrested for criminal involvement, one for commercial crime and seven others for drug offences. They were arrested at home and in several locations around SPS,” he told reporters here, today.
He said all arrested were taken to SPS police headquarters for further investigation.
A total of 441 personnel from the police, people’s volunteer corp (Rela) and the Civil Defence Department were involved in the 10pm-3am operation.
Nasir said the police questioned 527 individuals during the operation.
“We mobilised all members to raid snooker centres, massage parlours, entertainment outlets, houses of suspects and put up five road blocks.”
Some 386 vehicles were inspected in road blocks put up in Jalan Bukit Minyak, Jalan Besar Simpang Empat, Jalan Valdor Sungai Bakap, Jalan Permatang Kling and Jawi Toll Plaza exit.
“A total of 101 summonses were issued for various traffic offences including driving without valid driving licence and expired road tax.”
He said the police continue with the integrated operation in an effort to wipe out criminal activities in the state.
