THE Mechanical Training Centre (PLM) yesterday welcomed 282 students to its third intake for the Industry Skill Qualification (ISQ) programme during an opening ceremony for the commencement of orientation, which took place at the centre’s multipurpose hall.
The guest of honour was Deputy General Manager of Megamas Training Co Sdn Bhd, Haji Mahmud bin Haji Idris.
Haji Mahmud explained to students that they would undergo a one-year programme and that in their second semester, they would be required to undergo work placements to gain experience.
He also highlighted the importance of this course with regards to the oil and gas industry, and that “hard work is essential to achieving success in any pursuit in life”.
He advised students and their parents to comply with the work ethics and disciplines of the company when it comes to their work placements, which are all located in the Belait District.
Haji Mahmud said the company had received several negative reports in the past from the participating companies granting students work placements.
Among the problems are late arrival or no-show and failure to provide valid reasons for their absence.
In light of this, the guest of honour reiterated to parents the importance of their active involvement in their children’s lives.
The objectives of the orientation is to expose the newly-enrolled students to the rules and regulations of the centre and the importance of complying and upholding them.
At the same time, it is a good opportunity for students to familiarise themselves with their peers and teachers.
The orientation will last until Thursday and will include several briefings, motivational talks, an Agrotech Park Challenge and a closing ceremony.
