I WOULD like to refer to the news item ‘Flies swarm residential areas’, which was published on Page 6 of the June 2, 2017 edition of the Borneo Bulletin.
I have been living in Kg Tanjung Nangka for the past 20 years and lately have been having problem with flies that I don’t know where it came from. I thought my case was an isolated one but your article proves I was wrong.
Though my problem may not be as terrible as those in Kg Kulapis and Bebatik, it is causing a lot of inconvenience to me and my family.
Hari Raya is coming soon and if this problem is not resolved I will be chasing flies inside my house during my open day, just like my previous open houses.
For the record, I have noticed the swamp of flies are getting more than before, probably caused by more breeding grounds being introduced.
I have tried so many ways to get rid of the flies which among others included fogging, spraying the surrounding and vicinity of my house with commercial insecticides, ensuring rubbish was thrown away promptly, using electronic and electrical pest control devices, using poisons of different types, regularly spraying the inside of my house with household pesticide.
All with no lasting result and the invading swamp of flies will return in a few days.
There must be an explanation to this “pandemic”.
I have never seen the poultry farm mentioned in your article myself, but thinking about it, it can be one of the breeding grounds for the flies. We all know flies are dangerous since they carry diseases.
Your article proves the flies problem is not limited to a small area such as my house, but is of bigger scale than I previously thought.
The authorities must do something fast to curb this problem before people get sick with illnesses brought by the uncontrollable flies.
I also urge the authorities to take appropriate action against any parties found to be “breeding” these flies.
We cannot have a healthy living with flies swamping everywhere especially on our foods.
I hope this problem will permanently be eradicated for the sake of the residents staying in Kg Tanjung Nangka, Kulapis, Bebatik and where ever facing this problem.
