GUNDAM enthusiasts as well as military build models and toy lovers can battle it out at the Brunei Plamo Challenge which started yesterday and will conclude on Sunday at the Mabohai Shopping Complex.
Organised by Brunei Plamo Group, the event is aimed at promoting the interest of Plamo, the hobby of plastic modelling, as well as an avenue for charity.
According to Zulwaqar bin Hj Zulzali from the Brunei Plamo Group, “This is the second time this year that we are hosting the Brunei Plamo Challenge aimed at creating awareness on the hobby of Plamo by providing an avenue to display creation and to contribute to charity, as a percentage of every item sold in the event will be passed on to charitable organisations.”
Zulwaqar also revealed that the group has helped KACA, SMARTER Brunei as well as underprivileged families in the past.
To join the challenge, interested Plamo enthusiasts can enter three models in one of the five categories like Gunpla, Gunpla (Diorama), Car Model, Military and Tamiya Mini 4WD.
Each participant will need to pay a fee of B$25 for registration.
Touching on the hobby of Plamo, Zulwaqar, a toy collector himself, said, “There is currently a growing demand for the hobby. This is evident when we see online vendors thriving and there are a growing number of followers in Plamo.”
He also mentioned that he inherited the hobby from his father, and that they both now have a huge collection of toys at their house. Aside from the competition, there are also demonstrations on building car models and Gundam models at the event. Members of the public can visit the event at Mabohai Shopping Complex today and Sunday.
