FC PHOSPHOR will be one of the teams in the hat for the next round in the DST FA Cup following a 9-2 whitewash of Tripas Muda at the Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex last night.
The last time any team battered to such a catastrophic score-line was previously recorded at the Berakas Sports Complex in the DST Super League when QAF FC romped to an 8-0 victory. However, it was only the 60th minute and FC Phosphor were not satisfied of ending their rout.
Such was FC Phosphor’s dominance that they stretched to an emphatic runaway 8-0 lead before the hour mark.
Tripas Muda’s goalkeeper Abdul Azim bin Abdul Latif must be having nightmares but averted potential disaster after a clearance that nearly went horribly wrong.
In a slight change of fortunes, Tripas Muda were determined to show off sheer individual brilliance when Taufiq bin Dunglah dazzled past a couple or more defenders and fell awkwardly to a challenge with the goal frame in his radar.
Taufiq unsurprisingly geared up for the corner and smacked home to the centre of the goal with the keeper already rooted on the ground.
The goal reinvigorated the team who supposedly were shaken aside by a goal-mad team and they could have notched a second had a striker showed more conviction in his finishing.
FC Phosphor stormed forward and delivered a message how effortless they had been all game setting up easy finishes but missed a splendid opportunity with a chance gone begging.
Tripas Muda broke almost immediately on the other end and was rewarded for their persistence for their second goal of the game through Amier Rusydiy Hj Suhaimi two minutes from time.
Their spirits never ran out and was close to snatching a third but substitute Md Rahim bin Romei comprosing effort was cleared off the line.
FC Phosphor was unlucky not to have a fine effort bounce off the crossbar despite the attention of a Tripas’ defender but they did have the final goal with Mohd Khairulizam Pungut thumping his effort to the top corner with defenders chasing shadows in additional time.
FC Phosphor nearly reached double digit following a marauding dash into the box but a player could only hit a tame shot well into Abdul Azim’s gloves.
