THE Royal Brunei Police Force has arrested a 34-year-old permanent resident for allegedly trying to smuggle 16 cartons of cigarette into the country.
The ‘C’ Company of the Reserve Unit of the police force made the arrest at Spg 1878, Junjungan 2, which is close to the border with Malaysia.
During their patrol, the police personnel saw the man cycling in the area with a ‘tekiding’ (rattan basket).
The personnel asked what was he doing but he tried to flee.
The police managed to apprehend him.
His bicycle and the cigarettes were seized and he was taken to Limau Manis police station.
The police urged the public to report any suspicious act near the border to the police through the hotline 993.
